This term’s topic is all about Awe and Wonder and we will be exploring our learning question
’What materials make a good rocket?’

In English we will be focused on the fundamentals of writing, remembering how to build our sentences correctly, using punctuation and our beautiful handwriting. We will be using colourful semantics to look at building sentences.

In Maths, our Year 1 children are focusing on place value within 50, then will move on to looking at length and hight and mass and capacity. Our year 2 children are looking at using their times tables knowledge to help with with fractions, then looking at length and height.

In History, we are looking at the history of toys. We will be thinking about what toys look like today, compared to what they looked like when our parents and grandparents were born.

In Science, we are learning about properties of different materials. We will use this knowledge in our DT lessons to build a toy rocket.

We love reading at Robert Bakewell, so please try to read as much as possible with your child at home, we cannot wait to hear all about their exciting reads! Remember to log all of their amazing reading on Boomreader so they can get their reading prizes.

Please keep an eye on our class page for regular updates and as a window to our fantastic learning!

Our P.E lessons take place on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes into school in their P.E kit on those days each week. Also, please ensure your child has a water bottle in school everyday.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, then please feel free to email the school office.

WELCOME TO THE CEDAR TEACHING TEAM:

Mrs Beeby- Part Time Class Teacher (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)

Although I am new to Robert Bakewell this year, I have been a Primary School teacher for 14 years. I am passionate about learning and thoroughly enjoy working with young children- they are a source of endless entertainment! My favourite subjects are English, Science and History not just to teach but for my own enjoyment. I have 2 children of my own both at Primary school- one in Year 1 and one in Year 3, so the learning doesn’t stop even when I get home. Outside of school I enjoy cycling and exercise classes, reading and walking. Most important of all is spending time at home with my family and enjoying the company of good friends.
