Birch
Welcome to Birch!
This term’s topic is all about Awe and Wonder and we will be exploring our learning question
’What materials make a good rocket?’
In English we will be focused on the fundamentals of writing, remembering how to build our sentences correctly, using punctuation and our beautiful handwriting. We will be using colourful semantics to look at building sentences.
In maths, our Year 1 children are focusing on place value to 50, length and height and mass while our year 2 children are looking at multiplication and division.
In History, we will be learning all about toys! We will be finding out what is similar/different about the toys that we play with compared to what our parents or grandparents played with.
In Science, we are learning about materials and their properties and we are focusing on ‘What materials would make a good rocket?’ We will be carrying out investigations using our working scientifically skills to find out which materials are strong, waterproof and transparent/opaque.
We love reading at Robert Bakewell, so please try to read as much as possible with your child at home, we cannot wait to hear all about their exciting reads! Remember to log all of their amazing reading on Boomreader so they can get their reading prizes.
Please keep an eye on our class page for regular updates and as a window to our fantastic learning!
Our P.E lessons take place on a Wednesday and a Thursday. Please ensure your child comes into school in their P.E kit on those days each week. Also, please ensure your child has a water bottle in school everyday.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, then please feel free to email the school office.
