Welcome to the Ash class page
Our Unit 4 topic is all about Inventions and Technology and we will be exploring our learning question
“What animal would you like as a pet?”
Through this question we will be exploring some of the wonderful animals on our planet. The children will learn about key features of different animal groupings such as mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and reptiles. The children will learn about some of the characteristics that are unique to these groups. In English we will be focusing on the books Dear Zoo, Owl Babies, and Lulu wants a cat. Children will also be exposed to simple non-fiction texts, that will allow children to learn more information about some of their favourite animals. Children will also learn about responsibilities needed to be a good pet owner. The children will continue with daily phonics lessons which will help them record simple sentences and recognise tricky words to support reading and writing. In maths, children will continue to work on number bonds to 10. They will also learn about length, weight and capacity and will explore 3D shapes. In RHSE, we will be teaching the children how to make healthy choices with regards to what they put into their body. We will also be raising their awareness of how to stay safe online. The British Value focus is Rule of Law. Our History lessons will focus on the inventor James Starley, who invented the bicycle. Children will look at how the bicycle has changed from the Penny Farthing to present day. In music, we will be learning how to create low and high pitch, with our voices. We will also be learning the nursery rhyme 12345, Once I caught a fish alive. In art, the children will be learning about what sculptures are and exploring pliable materials that can be used to make them such as playdough and clay.
At Robert Bakewell we firmly believe that reading is the key that opens doors for our children. Please ensure that you hear your child read daily and record this in their diary so that they can earn points towards our fabulous reading prizes.
Please keep an eye on our webpage as we will upload photographs on a regular basis, to showcase the wonderful learning that is going on in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.
PE this half term will be on Monday, so please ensure children have their indoor PE kit in school each week. This includes black shorts/leggings and white t-shirts and black pumps. Please ensure your kit is named!
